- The opportunity I would like to pursue would be a company that creates nutrient dense sauces/condiments for elderly dogs, underweight dogs, or simply, dogs who do not eat well. The sauce would be poured over the dogs normal dog food.
- As dogs get older, they loose their taste and appetite. Also, some dogs have such a high metabolism/ high energy that they struggle to put on weight.
- Who: dogs and their owners
- What: The dogs are unable to maintain their appetite, find the food boring, or simply do not eat well. This causes them to be underweight or miss out on essential nutrients in their day-to-day food.
- Why: As dogs age, they loose their appetite. Also, some dogs (like my own) are such picky eaters/ have too much energy to eat normal food, so additives help get them excited to eat.
- Testing the boundaries:
- Testing the who: There are others besides dogs and their owners who share this need. Other people who may be interested would be veterinarians, shelter employees, or pet store managers. These individuals see dogs on a daily basis and are aware of their needs. My vet has suggested several says for my dog to put on weight but never has suggested a product that could help. Shelter employees see dogs come in who are severely underweight, and pet store managers need to fulfill their customers needs as they visit the store.
- Testing the what: The boundaries of the need is that not every dog owner has this need. Some potential questions that could be asks are: How common is it for elderly dogs to loose appetite? How common is it for puppies/ dogs to be underweight? How possible is it to create a sauce out of natural and healthy ingredients? How expensive would production, formulation, testing, and patenting cost? How excited would dog owners be about this product? How difficult is it to pass regulations for dog treats and food? How much protein/vegetable/carbs would need to be included?
- Testing the why: For people who have the need I identified, there is a wide range of 'why's' offered. Though underweight dogs are a pretty common issue, the reasoning for why they are underweight is different on a case by case basis. The 'why' I have identified is relevant to some, but not all, so I believe the market could be even larger than I expect.
- Interviews:
- Michelle Jenkins- mother
- Do you have or know a dog that struggles to have an appetite?
- "Your dog, Mable is the skinniest dog I know. My dogs are a little too chunky, but I know dogs who would need this."
- Would you buy condiments for your dog's food?
- "I would buy sauces for the dogs as an occasional treat."
- Do you believe your dog gets all of the nutrients needed?
- "Because of how many snacks they get, they probably are getting too many empty calories and not enough nutrients."
- Do you believe this opportunity is a good idea?
- "Yes, I think many people would buy this for their animals."
- Ruthie Morris- dog groomer
- Do you have or know a dog that struggles to have an appetite?
- "Besides Mable, I see dogs daily who are skinny. It is so sad because you try to mention something to their owners, and usually they are aware and embarrassed about it."
- Would you buy condiments for your dog's food?
- "Piper (her dog) would love it, and she is at a weight where should could put on a few pounds and be healthy."
- Do you believe your dog gets all of the nutrients needed?
- "I think she does; I am very specific with her portions and she has a high quality dry food from Canada, where the regulations are more strict on dog food than in America."
- Do you believe this opportunity is a good idea?
- "I really do; I would recommend this to my clients."
- Borden Hawkins- neighbor
- Do you have or know a dog that struggles to have an appetite?
- "Not right now, my dog actually needs to go on a diet to loose weight. It is harder than you think to not feed them all the chips and treats."
- Would you buy condiments for your dog's food?
- "Probably not. Like I said he is getting pretty fat so I really need to control what he eats."
- Do you believe your dog gets all of the nutrients needed?
- "Yes, and more that he does not need."
- Do you believe this opportunity is a good idea?
- "For stray dogs found on the street that need to gain weight quick, yea this is an awesome idea."
- Lainey Harris- Friend
- Do you have or know a dog that struggles to have an appetite?
- "Bella struggled in the beginning, but I was able to get a handle on it early on and switch up her diet, so now she is a healthy weight."
- Would you buy condiments for your dog's food?
- "Of course, I am crazy about anything for my baby. Last week I bought dog wine; do I need it? no. Did I buy two? yes."
- Do you believe your dog gets all of the nutrients needed?
- "I cook for Bella and she eats a dry food, so yes I believe she gets all of her nutrients."
- Do you believe this opportunity is a good idea?
- "Yes, especially for your dog. I also think this would be cool to see in vet offices, as an easily ready option for building and appetite."
- Christian Neret- Friend
- Do you have or know a dog that struggles to have an appetite?
- "Duke is 15 and he barley eats anymore, it is really sad."
- Would you buy condiments for your dog's food?
- "Yes for sure. Duke would love that."
- Do you believe your dog gets all of the nutrients needed?
- "He used to, but as he aged he lost his appetite and I have seen his ribs become more exposed and noticeable."
- Do you believe this opportunity is a good idea?
- "For sure, I would buy this in every flavor for Duke so he has options. He really does like when we change up what he easts to keep him excited to eat."
- When completing the first step, it was pretty easy for me to see an opportunity. My dog, Mable, inspired me for this idea because she is really skinny. She always has food available but is the pickiest eater. I end up having to cook for her and add it to her food, but that can be expensive and time consuming. She also gets sick of flavors; for example, if I feed her beef for multiple days she will grow tired of it. In the second step, I thought the most. I had to change my perspective and widen my view of the opportunity to establish the why. In step 3, I found it easier to think of new potential customers, other than just dog owners. I started thinking about vets, groomers, pet stores, etc. This shows the market may be bigger than I originally thought. I really enjoyed interviewing my friends and family. It was very helpful to do the interviews over a period of a few days to gather helpful information. Though I still believe the market is large for this product, I think this product may not be for every dog owner. Overall, I found that people generally would buy my product and that dogs young and old could benefit from the dog sauces.

7A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
- Opportunity 1 (economic): 26% of the labor force is unemployed. Between large companies filing for bankruptcy, huge layoffs, and lower tax revenues, everyone is impacted in some fashion. I believe there is an opportunity to help both unemployed people as well as individuals looking for help. My initial idea is to create a small recruiting app/website that allows for anyone to post part-time work. These jobs can be anything from a babysitter, to a landscaper, to even a personal assistant. Interviews and verification can be conducted on the platform, maintaining social distancing. The app would be like Craigslist, but for odd jobs.
- a) https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/05/28/863120102/40-8-million-out-of-work-in-the-past-10-weeks
- b) What leads me to believe an opportunity exists is that 40.8 million Americans are jobless. This is a large enough market for an opportunity to exist.
- c) The ideal customers would be those who are unemployed and seeking work, and those seeking help (employers).
- d) I think the opportunity would be a 6 or 7 on difficulty for exploitation scale (1 being easy to exploit and 10 being difficult). I think it would be slightly difficult because there are several local Facebook groups with people constantly posting for jobs and work. I do think it is doable because I have not seen an app specifically for part-time work, where the employee gets to create their own path.
- e) I formed the belief that an opportunity exists because I currently am not working (I am starting an internship in July), but I am always open to help friends and do odd jobs. For example, a coworker at my old job needed help with a small garden/landscaping project. Though I am not a landscaper, I am able to follow direction and put in heavy lifting, resulting in cash. This instance (and others) has lead me to believe others need help (for example the elderly need help getting groceries). It would be easiest if one platform allowed for people to post what they need help with.
- Opportunity 2 (economic): While watching a video about how meat prices are rising, I learned that farmers are getting paid less and less from meat processing companies for their meat. I believe there is an opportunity to actually increase the farmers' wage by cutting out the processor, and sell directly to consumer. In order to do this, there could be a service that connect people with local farmers, providing a meat delivery service. This would cause cheaper meat for consumer and more income for farmers.
- a) https://video.foxnews.com/v/6159887736001#sp=show-clips
- b) I believe an opportunity exists because in America, there are over 727,000 beef farmers (not including other meats), so the market is there.
- c) The ideal customers would be consumers of meat and local/small farmers.
- d) I think the opportunity would be very difficult to exploit. This is because the big meat processing companies (ex- Tyson), account for 2/3 of meat purchases from farmers. It is hard to compete with such large companies because there are already contracts in place.
- e) I found the belief that an opportunity exists because I am a huge supporter of local farmers. I attend a farmers market weekly, where I buy my meats and veggies that are locally sources, supporting the farmer directly. I think it is best to cut out the big production companies who exploit their workers and take advantage of farmers.
- Opportunity 3 (regulatory): While reading up on the virus vaccine, I found that this vaccine could be potentially mandatory in certain scenarios (ex: school admission). I had the idea that there could be an alternative to the vaccine; there could be a service/subscription with daily ways to strengthen your immune system. For example, you sign up through out website, and then receive daily packages and packets that have a list of ways to strengthen your immune system that day. For example, one day could have a vitamin C packet, a list of short exercises, and ideal amount of sunlight exposure. This would act as an alternative to the vaccination.
- a) https://www.statnews.com/2020/05/12/covid-19-vaccine-all-americans-should-get-it/
- b) The information from this article leads me to believe that an opportunity exists because it talks about a potential "federally mandatory vaccine." This honestly scares me, and I know I cannot be the only one who wishes for medical freedom.
- c) I think the ideal customer would be people who are skeptical about the vaccine. Over 40% of Americans forego the flu shot, and though it is a reasonable vaccine, people are entitled to their beliefs not to get it.
- d) I believe this idea is quite difficult to exploit. If the government makes it mandatory to get the vaccine, I am not sure how they would enforce it; The difficulty would be getting the chance to talk to the decision makers, which could take a lot of time. But, this opportunity is realistic to exploit because there is a market for natural ways to boost immunity, so I truly believe people would be interested.
- e) What lead me to believe this opportunity exists is my own personal beliefs. Though I am not anti-vax, I never have has a flu shot, but I also never have had the flu. I have as very strong immune system by getting daily exercise, eating a proper diet, and getting exposure to sunlight. I also have several friends who have the same belief. Additionally, I will not be getting the vaccine when I comes out, so an alternative would be ideal.
- Opportunity 4 (regulatory): Due to the virus, it is now normal for institutions (such as work, the gym, salons, etc) to take your temperature before coming into the building. My idea is to create an app that is linked to the business taking your temperature. This app would "scan " your forehead and then display your temperature and send it to the workplace, gym, etc. I believe the phone has the capacity to do this, because there is an internal thermometer that can read how hot your phone is.
- a) https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/legal-and-compliance/employment-law/pages/eeoc-coronavirus-temperature.aspx
- b) This information leads me to believe an opportunity exists because it explains that organizations should have a willing volunteer take temperatures of guests/employees. This app would cut out the volunteer and make it easier for people to take their temperature.
- c) I believe managers of businesses are the ideal customer of this app, as they can be the ones who choose to implement it.
- d) I believe this opportunity is relatively easy to exploit. This is because your phone already has a thermometer inside, so the biggest obstacles would be app development and marketing it to businesses.
- e) What gave me the idea for this opportunity is that my phone always overheats in the FL sun. Also, I went to the gym for the first time in months the other day, and I honestly was off-put when they took my temperature without asking.

5A- Identifying Local Opportunities
- Story #1
- Title: Back to school? 1 in 5teachers are unlikely to return to reopened classroom this fall, poll says
- Link: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20200527/back-to-school-1-in-5-teachers-are-unlikely-to-return-to-reopened-classrooms-this-fall-poll-says
- Story: Basically, this story covers the perspectives of teachers (new and old) and parents, as they discuss how distance learning has been and what they prefer for the fall. From the teachers' perspective, 2/3 of them feel like they have not been able to do their job properly while distance learning, yet they still feel as though they are working much harder. Older teachers are considering not returning in the fall, as they vulnerable to the virus. Also, 6 out of 10 parents say they will go to home schooling if they have to, in order to continue social distancing. Overall, majority of students and teachers are not aware what till happen in the future, yet continue to struggle.
- Problem: The problem is the uncertainty of the future. Each teacher and student has different needs and perspectives of what needs to happen in the fall semester, so in the end some will be unhappy.
- Who: This problem impacts all students. For those who would be doing online in the fall, they would miss the chance to have a normal schooling experience, and miss out on the necessary social skills developed in school. If fall is online, then the students who do not have access to the proper technology or whose parents would have to take work off to teach them would suffer.
- Story #2:
- Title: Reopening Jacksonville: Mayor announces plan to open summer camps, pools
- Link: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20200527/reopening-jacksonville-mayor-announces-plan-to-open-summer-camps-pools
- Story: Jacksonville mayor, Lenny Curry, has announced five public pools to reopen within the next two weeks, with more to follow. Also, Curry has announced summer camps for children (both full and half days) will begin running within the next two weeks, free of charge. Due to the virus, it was decided to cap the amount of children in these summer camps at 30 total, and limit group activities to 10. Curry has finalized these decisions because there has been a clear decrease in Jacksonville of the virus. Additionally, sports teams are to begin practice again and an announcement of bars reopening will happen next week.
- Problem: Because there is a cap to the amount of children allowed in the free summer camps, there will be less children than usual able to attend camp.
- Who: The people who deal with this problem are the parents of children who rely on the free summer camps while school is not in session, so the parents are still able to work. The cap of capacity will cause parents to fight over spots for their children, and in turn conflict with parents' work schedules.
- Story #3:
- Title: Florida university to look different in the fall
- Link: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20200528/florida-university-life-to-look-different-in-fall/1
- Story: Florida universities are planning to reopen for the fall, but there might be some new measures taken. Virus testing and distance learning may become a daily thing for students. Though social distancing will be enforced on campus, several are concerned with the inability to enforce social distancing off campus. People want normalcy, so we much coexist with the virus. A solidified plan to reopen will be released on June 23, though it has been decided that classes than can be taught online, will be online.
- Problem: The problem is figuring out how to provide quality education in an online platform; many are concerned they will not learn as well online.
- Who: Teachers, staff, and students have tis problem.
- Story #4:
- Title: Florida's health care reboot has been slow growing
- Link: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20200528/floridarsquos-health-care-reboot-has-been-slow-going
- Story: Florida is getting health care services back into full effect. Due to the virus, nonessential procedures were not permitted, but now nonessential services will be accessible. There is concern that though nonessential services are available, patients will forego services anyway. This will cause a decline in revenue, and people to be laid off. While fully reopening, there will be several new safety measures taken in the health industry, as any patient can be a potential carrier.
- Problem: The problem is that potential decline in revenues can cause jobs to be loss in an essential industry.
- Who: Anyone in the healthcare industry can have this problem.
- Story #5:
- Title: Restaurants face new reality of fewer customers, food shortages, and rising costs
- Link: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20200528/restaurants-face-new-reality-of-fewer-customers-food-shortages-and-rising-costs
- Story: Though dining rooms are opening, there are more challenges that those in the restaurant industry face. Restaurants, specifically BBQ places, are running into meat shortages as well as higher prices. These implications could potentially mean a menu change to several places.
- Problem: The problem is the meat shortages, having to win back customers, and having to adapt to new WHO safety recommendations.
- Who: Restaurant owners and customers are impacted by this issue.

4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief
- Beginning Point: I believe that constructing a sidewalk in my parents' neighborhood would really contribute to the safety of members of the community and create a sense of order.
- Describing My Belief: The unmet need is that there it often times does not feel safe traveling down my parents' street via car due to the dozens of pedestrians/bikers, several blind turns, and there are constantly workers (ex- lawn care, contractors, construction, etc), causing chaos when trying to drive down the street. This disorder gives me fear of hitting people and also creates lines of cars trying to get around the obstacles in the way. The people who have the need are those who live on my parents' street in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. This need comes from the lack of a sidewalk on a busy road; a sidewalk would provide a path for walkers, and even an area for work trucks to pull up to and get out of the road. In order to meet this need now, my parents' and their neighbors often drive 10 miles under the speed limit, to assure the safety of everyone. Also, community members have brought the issue up at neighborhood meetings. At this point, I am 75% sure this opportunity exists.
- Prototypical Customers: People who live in my parents' neighborhood.
- No. 1: My mother, Michelle Jenkins
- No. 2: My neighbor, Sue Hawkins
- No. 3: My neighbor, Larry Ridenhour
- Interviews:
- Iteration No. 1:
- What is the exact nature of the need?
- "Safety is the primary thing."
- When do they become aware of the need? Sometimes? All the time?
- "I am aware of this need whenever I am leaving or coming back to the house, specifically between the morning and early evening."
- How long have they had the need?
- "Ever since we moved here, which has been over 20 years."
- When did they first become aware of the need? Why?
- "When we moved here I noticed everyone had to walk, jog, and bike in the road and cars have to go around."
- How are they currently addressing their need?
- "Well, I am not doing anything, but if I were I would be starting a petition with the neighbors and taking it to the country commission."
- How satisfied are they with this solution?
- "Since I am not doing anything at the moment, it is unsatisfactory."
- Iteration No. 2:
- What is the exact nature of the need?
- "The exact nature of the need is stress relief when driving and to prevent accidents."
- When do they become aware of the need? Sometimes? All the time?
- "I am aware on a daily basis, any time I go down the street it is like a parking lot."
- How long have they had the need?
- "When we moved here, almost three years ago."
- When did they first become aware of the need? Why?
- "My family first became aware of this need when we almost hit a work truck that was parked right in front of our driveway, not giving us any room to back out. We then had to find the worker, who was several houses down, and ask him to stop parking there."
- How are they currently addressing their need?
- "Other than asking the worker to not park in front of our driveway, I have not actually done anything."
- How satisfied are they with this solution?
- "The solution worked short-term, but long-term it is still impossible to move down our road."
- Iteration No. 3:
- What is the exact nature of the need?
- "We need to have a place for people to walk that is out of the way and limits congestion."
- When do they become aware of the need? Sometimes? All the time?
- "I notice that we really do need a sidewalk when I am staying here, though I have been in Texas recently to visit my granddaughter, when I return home I can't help but notice we need a sidewalk."
- How long have they had the need?
- "Our neighborhood has needed a sidewalk ever since I can remember, but especially in the summer months when all of the kids are home."
- When did they first become aware of the need? Why?
- "I first noticed we need a sidewalk at least ten or so years ago."
- How are they currently addressing their need?
- "I've talked to Kitty, she is on the board for the neighborhood, but she is very hard to get ahold of."
- How satisfied are they with this solution?
- "I am not satisfied and won't be until it is fixed."
- Reflections:
- No. 1: I learned that this issue is nothing new and has been happening for at least two decades. The most surprising thing I learned about my opportunity is that though this issue seems to be annoying, my mother has not actually done anything to appease the problem.
- No. 2: From my second interview, I related with my neighbor, as I also have gotten blocked in my own driveway from a work truck. The most surprising thing from this interview was that, even though this family is relatively new to the area, they still notice the same problem as someone who has been here for decades.
- No. 3: From my third interview, I learned that this opportunity is vital because if a sidewalk does not happen, children's safety is at risk. The most surprising thing about this opportunity from the interview is that Larry has talked to someone who is in charge of the neighborhood, yet did not get a direct response.
- (See above for second and third interviews and reflections)
- Summarize:
- How much of your original opportunity is still there?
- I believe all of my original opportunity is still there. All people I interviewed agreed that a sidewalk would help greatly.
- Do you believe that your new opportunity is more accurate than when you started?
- I am not positive if the opportunity is more accurate, but I do think there will be more hoops to jump through than I initially thought. Apparently in order to get a sidewalk you have to talk to many people and potentially petition it.
- How much do you think entrepreneurs should "adapt"their own opportunities based on customer feedback?
- I think there is give and take when listening to feedback. If there is a larger population that would support the venture if it is adapted, then I think the entrepreneur should be willing to change their original plans, because that would help the most people. Trade-off's are necessary and very similar to compromise.
3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story
Though I have been exposed to several cases of entrepreneurship in my life, the most impactful instance has been through my dad; he graduated UF in 1984 with his BS in Construction Management. In 1991 my dad, Archie Jenkins, started Beaches Habitat for Humanity in Jacksonville Beach, FL. He noticed that there was no chapter for Habitat at the beaches, yet there was a major need for one. For those who do not know what Habitat for Humanity does, it is an international nonprofit organization that builds houses for families who need help; it is a great organization that has built hundreds of thousands of homes worldwide for those in need. Once I was 12 years old, I started volunteering with Beaches Habitat and that is when I noticed my father was an entrepreneur and saw the impact he had on peoples' lives. Now, my dad is retired from Beaches Habitat, but he still holds the title as Director Emeritus and the organization continues to thrive. Also, he continues to help build houses and volunteer where he is needed. Though my dad did not invent the nonprofit of Habitat for Humanity, he noticed a geographical need for one at the Beaches.
On a different note, I am very excited to dive into this class, ENT3003. From what I can tell, this course is unlike any other business course I have taken. Typically, I feel business classes can limit abstract thinking, so I am thankful to take this class to foster my creative side a little bit. I enrolled in this class because I have always been interested in entrepreneurship (I am a big Shark Tank fan), but my schedule in the fall and spring did not allow me to take it, which is why I decided to take it over the summer. I also have heard great things about this course from friends, which enticed me to enroll. From this class, I hope to gain a better understanding of entrepreneurship on a smaller level/ day-to-day basis. Before this class, I interpreted entrepreneurship as starting a business, but now I am able to see that there is much more to it, and anyone can be an entrepreneur. I also hope to gain the confidence in my creativity and ideas, as I always convince myself I am not creative and more of a numbers person.

2A- Bug List
The following is a list of my personal bugs and why they exist, I hope you enjoy and can relate to some of them.
1) Within two weeks after my dog gets groomed, she develops thick matts/knots in her fur that are almost impossible to get out, causing me to have to shave her consistently.- Why: The matts develop because the hair begins to dread and coil around the other hair. I believe in my dog's case, it is because she is very fluffy and swims almost every day. The groomers (and myself) are unable to get the matts out because it takes much time and it can potentially hurt the dog to tug hard on her fur.
2) Since the pandemic, the line at the Trader Joe's off Archer has been very long, causing me to go to other grocery stores instead (Publix, Walmart, etc).
- Why: Due to the county/state restriction on capacity and social distancing recommendations, Trader Joe's limits the amount of people who can enter the store at a given time. The allotted capacity causes the lines outside, while Trader Joe's popularity and low prices draws many to prefer Trader Joe's over other grocers.
3) After my dog gets a drink of water, her beard is super wet/drippy, getting water all over my floors.
- Why: I have a labradoodle, a breed known for having long hair and beards. Once her beard gets to a certain length, it is impossible to not get it soaking wet when the dog drinks water, causing a lot of dripping on the floor every time she drinks.
4) When I am driving as the sun is beginning to go down, often times the sun lands right in my eyes and misses my car's sun visor by just a little bit.
- Why: This is because, more often than you would expect, the sun is in the point of the sky right where the visor does not cover. This problem could be solved if the visor was designed a tad bit longer/bigger.
5) At least twice a month, I lock my only car key inside my car, causing me to have to call AAA often.
- Why: This problem exists for a few reasons, the first being that I often am just moving too fast and forget where I put my keys and my car locks with them inside. Also, I bought a used car, so the dealership is not required to supply a spare key (I only have one key).
6) When I drive in the mornings, I get annoyed that coffee mugs do not fit in my car cup holder properly.
- Why: Though I am not positive why the manufactures of my '07 Honda CRV did not make the cup holders big enough for a standard coffee mug, it could be because there is a safety concern with hot liquid without a lid in a vehicle. For example, if you have to slam on your breaks for whatever reason, the coffee could spill in your lap or interior and the manufactures could have potential backlash.
7) Fruit flies infesting my kitchen during the summer months, even though I keep a very clean kitchen.
- Why: Living in Florida, it is almost impossible to avoid house flies. Fruit flies thrive in warm and humid climate, which is why when the summer comes, we notice more fruit flies. The wet and warm climate in FL also provides perfect breeding conditions for the flies.
8) When I use my keyboard and get grease on the keys.
- Why: Honestly, this is probably because I am a snacker and should wash my hands every time I use my computer. Also, my computer has no covering on the keyboard, which is why I notice the grease easier.
9) How expensive healthy/trendy food options are at the grocery store. (Ex- overpaying for vegetarian options/substitutes; overpaying for organics)
- Why: The price difference between organic and non-organic meats and produce is due to the extra care farmers take while producing organic foods. Organic foods means no pesticides (produce) or antibiotics/hormones (meat) were used in the production.
10) While living alone during quarantine, it has been especially difficult to cook for one person/properly portion out meals (roommates are gone).
- Why: I am used to sharing food/ cooking for three people (my two roommates and myself). Since COVID-19, my roommates have moved back home, while I continue to stay in Gainesville, meaning I have much more food leftover when I cook. I have noticed it is hard to use up a lot of the fresh food I buy before it goes bad.
11) The dance of, "you go first," when you arrive at a stop sign at the same time as someone else.
- Why: I believe this happens because initially, people are trying to be polite and let the other person go first. When both people are trying to decide who goes first, the kindness can quickly turn to anger.
12) When I ride my scooter, I often do not pick up the sensor at red lights, causing me to either wait for a car to arrive behind me or go a different way (make a U-turn).
- Why: This happens because my body weight and scooter are not heavy enough to trigger the sensors in the ground that are connected to the traffic lights.
13) My least favorite activity to do is get my oil changed in my car, I always end up putting it off until my car absolutely needs it.
- Why: This bug exists because every few thousand miles or so, you need to replace your car's oil. Also, it bothers me because I often feel pressured to buy more add-ons for my car (ex- new wiper blades).
14) It really bothers me how expensive women's haircuts are compared to men's. For example, last time I got it cut, I payed over $70, just for a basic cut.
- Why: This is a problem because women obviously have more hair than men, which means it takes more care and time to properly treat.
15) My phone battery dies twice as fast as it used to. More specifically, my battery dies on average twice a day.
- Why: This is because my phone is older (from summer of 2017), and the battery is more worn out.
16) When the Brita water filter is left empty from the last person who used it.
- Why: In a perfect world, the person to use the last of the water in the Brita would refill it, for the next person to use. Unfortunately, this world is not perfect so this often times does not happen, most likely because the last to use the water was in a hurry, or just had other things going on. This typically leaves me to be the one to refill it constantly.
17) On road trips, it is very difficult to drive and eat fast food, causing me to spill majority of the food either in my lap or in my car. Specifically, this becomes difficult when there is some sort of sauce involved (ex: dipping Chick Fil A nuggets in sauce while driving). Last road trip, I spilled my entire sub all over my lap.
- Why: Being able to eat and drive is difficult because while driving, your hands and mind are so focused on the safety of others and driving smart. Typically, at least one hand is in use at all times and the car is moving, causing the food to shift.
18) It bothers me how in the summer, the weather is so nice in the evening, but the bugs are so terrible. The constant bug bites make it hard to enjoy your back yard during the summer nights.
- Why: This happens because the weather is ideal for bugs to live and thrive. The combination of humidity and warmth allow bugs to thrive.
19) When finishing a candle, there is always a little bit of wax at the bottom of the jar that remains after the wick runs out.
- Why: Specifically, I hate being wasteful, which is why this bug bothers me. I am assuming the which needs some sort of base to stand upon, which is why there is always leftover wax.
20) When trying to light a candle that has been used a couple of times, I either burn myself trying to light the wick or I am unable to reach it because my hand will not fit in the candle.
- Why: The reasoning for this bug is that as you use the candle, the wax gets lower and lower, making it more and more difficult to light each time.
Reflection:
It was more difficult than I initially thought to come up with a list of my 20 personal bugs. Last week is when I began this assignment, starting with about three bugs. Once I noticed how difficult this task actually was, I took a break and decided to go about my week as normal. Throughout the week I would jot down a note in my phone whenever I would think of a bug to add to this list. I found this to be the most genuine and productive way to compile my list of bugs. I thought it was interesting how difficult it is to come up with a list of bugs on the spot, but if you are aware of them throughout the week, there are so many different peeves. Also, my list has several bugs that focus on being in the car or my dog, this is because those two topics are constant in my life; I work with my dog daily and use my car almost every day. this assignment was a great way to get the creative juices flowing and see what personal problems I have.
